With the exception of part-time office administration and cleaning, the Abbey Theatre is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers.
Our volunteers pride themselves on providing a professional standard of service whatever their role.
As with other voluntary and charitable organisations, having to rely on peoples goodwill can sometimes leave us short-staffed.
We are always on the lookout for new volunteers, information on the main areas can be found below.
The technical team comprises a Lighting Designer, a Sound Engineer and Stage Manager. Sometimes additional Crew and Spotlight Operators are required, depending on the production. We are always on the lookout for experienced technical staff, and help is available for those wanting to learn.
The theatre has an extensive stock of lighting, sound and video equipment available to enhance a performance, and a number of our technical team are certified in the safe use of pyrotechnics. We can also hire additional equipment, our most popular options being starcloths and moving lights.
Our bar volunteers serve hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. Most of the shows at the theatre have an interval (usually 20 minutes) when being able to work quickly under pressure is an advantage as you need to serve all customers before the show resumes.
Once a performance starts, the work doesn’t end for the bar staff. They have to re-stock and tidy the bar ready for the next service, and so it’s important to work as a team.
We rely on our promotion volunteers to help distribute our season brochures. The primary job is being at the theatre at the end of the show to hand brochures to audience members on their way out, but as our team develops, we will also invite you to take part in events such as Nuneaton Lives, helping spread the word about the theatre to a much wider audience.
